As part of the city-wide commemoration of the “Burning of Falmouth” 250 years ago by the British during the American Revolution, Tate House Museum will showcase a pop-up exhibit highlighting the Tate family experience of the conflict that ignited in Portland (then called Falmouth) on Oct 18, 1775. Our program from 2:00- 4:00 pm will include period-dressed performers, collections and stories related to the family’s experience as Loyalist-leaning, and the first public unveiling of digital simulations of their view of the burning from the third-floor window of Tate House. Don’t miss this opportunity to hear exciting new research about the Tate family in revolutionary Portland.
Program cost is $15 for THM members and $18 for the general public with children 6-12 $5 off, under 6 free, and families of 4 (2 adults, 2 children) $40. Tickets available at the door in THM’s gift shop.
Across the road at the Means House, the Maine Ulster Scots Project will share a free exhibit Scots and Ulster-Scots Bombardment Connections featuring Samuel Thompson and Henry Mowat from 1:00 - 4:00 pm.
