School Tours
Tate House Museum offers school tours to help students better understand the social, political, and architectural history 18th-century Maine. We encourage student groups from third grade through college to visit. Resource materials may be available on request.
Our regular school program includes a one-hour tour of Tate House, and we also offer longer programs that include hands-on experiences with reproduction 18th century objects similar to those that may have been used by the Tate family in the 1700s.
Regular tours are $8 per student, and teachers and chaperones are invited to accompany students at the same rate. We recommend one adult per 10 students, and can generally accommodate up to 50 students per tour. For longer program offerings contact Executive Director Holly K. Hurd.
Tate House Trunk
Available at no cost to schools, the Tate House Trunk features reproduction items from the 18th century including colonial games, activities, and clothing for students to see, touch and experience. For a detailed listing of items, which includes a sewing kit, bag of marbles, eyeglasses, wax and seal, quill, powder horn, toothbrush, coins, and more, contact Director Holly K. Hurd. The trunk can be checked out for two weeks and must be reserved one week in advance.
