Annual Herb Sale: Saturday, May 28, 2011, 8 a.m. until 1:30 p.m.

Volunteers provide herbs from Broadway Gardens in South Portland for interested shoppers to peruse and purchase.  Some Tate House enthusiasts include perennials from their own carefully tended gardens.

Visitors to Tate House Museum enjoy the Colonial Garden behind the house throughout the summer with special garden tours available every Wednesday.  The garden includes herbs that Mary Tate would likely have had available for her use in the family's large kitchen, where she would have used them to prepare meals, to tend to the family's medicinal needs and to dry for later use for aromatic additions to the household atmosphere.

The Annual Herb Sale takes place every May in this peaceful Stroudwater setting.  Profits from the sale benefit the museum programs.
